Working with the British

Helping non-British people develop an awareness of the British business culture.

Working with the British is an interactive intercultural training workshop, aimed at helping non-British people develop an awareness of the key characteristics of the British business culture.

History is very important to the British, both in terms of the myths and the reality.  For this reason, the British business culture is sometimes seen as being rooted in the past and having a dislike of change and risk.  If you want to make change, be prepared to be patient and attend a lot of meetings.

The British sense of humour is very evident in all areas of life.  It is not considered flippant or disrespectful to use humour in a business situation.  In fact, humour may be used more or less constantly.  It is important not to take any of the humour personally, and an understanding of the British sense of humour will help you in your business dealings.

British companies are becoming less and less hierarchical.  Where a hierarchy exists it will often be based more on which meetings you are invited to attend and less on job title.  There is little automatic respect for authority in Britain and the British can appear to be very irreverent towards any superior.  Consensus is important, and if you try to achieve it you will be respected

Who will the workshop benefit?

The workshop will benefit anyone who works with the British whether they are home based or working overseas.  The workshop is designed for individuals or teams with a need to:

  •  Work with British members of their team, British colleagues, or British clients.
  • Establish productive relationships with British members of their team, British colleagues, or British clients.
  • Communicate successfully during face-to-face or remote contact with British members of their team, British colleagues, or British clients.

What are the course objectives?

The workshop will provide strategies for improving communication, increasing efficiency, advancing the success of inter cultural teams, and building positive long-term relationships.
